ABOUT
Whisper Canyon Ranch
MEET THE OWNERS
We are Brian and Beth Bogren and our journey with this magical land began in the fall of 2021 after our neighbor in Portland told us about a ranch for sale. We took a leap of faith and miraculously were able to acquire the ranch, turning our dream into reality on February 2, 2022, at 2:22 pm.
Brian is from Colorado Springs but was liing in New York City, and I (Beth) grew up in Yreka, California. We found love during a chance meeting in Portland in 2012 and we were married in 2015. Together we spent 9 years in Portland. My daughter Lauren is 26 and lives in Seattle and visits from time to time.
With Brian's 25 years of experience in the natural products industry and my talents as a chef and retreat host, we've crafted a unique retreat nestled in the heart of the Southern Oregon mountains. Brian, the rugged "nature boy," is responsible for the land management projects, while Beth infuses hospitality with warmth and charm, ensuring every aspect of your stay is memorable.
Together, we've revitalized the cabins, each refelcting a unique theme reflecting our love for this land and our commitment to providing an unforgettable experience.
As we tend to gardens and embark on outdoor projects, we're grateful to call this forest home and eager to share its magic with you. Whisper Canyon Ranch isn't just a destination; it's a haven of peace, nature, and cherished memories. We can't wait for you to experience the wonder that awaits.
HISTORY OF WCR
Whisper Canyon Ranch has a rich and storied history that reflects resilience and renewal. Originally the Rogue Valley Goat Dairy in the 1950’s, it lay abandoned until Mallory Sanford, discovered it in the 1970s. With fierce determination, Mallory and his wife Ellen transformed the neglected land into a horse ranch, hosting performance horse camps, creating a haven for nature enthusiasts and they became a vibrant community hub.
In the early 1980s, Mallory embarked on building their dream home, showcasing craftsmanship and ingenuity with reclaimed Douglas fir beams, a Koa wood front door, and salvaged beams from the old Grants Pass sawmill. The house was originally built around a giant Doug Fir tree!
Over the years, the ranch has changed hands five times total, each new owner leaving their mark.
Now, four years later, Brian and Beth continue to cherish Whisper Canyon Ranch as their home, embracing its legacy while eagerly anticipating its future growth. Visitors are welcomed to experience the ranch's energy firsthand, where every day is filled with magic and wonder.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
At Whisper Canyon Ranch, we acknowledge that we are not the true owners of this land as it is land that has been stolen from the Takelma Tribe. We are honored to be the stewards of these indigenous lands, which have been home to the Takelma tribes for thousands of years. The Takelma people have a deep and enduring connection to this region, and their history is woven into the very fabric of the landscape we now care for.
We recognize the rich cultural heritage of the Takelma tribes and the profound significance of this area to their past, present, and future. As we continue to work and live on this land, we do so with deep respect and gratitude for the indigenous communities who have nurtured and protected it long before us.
We are committed to honoring the history of the Takelma people and preserving the natural beauty and cultural significance of Whisper Canyon Ranch for generations to come.
